Richmond, VAMay 23, 2006 Timmons Group is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a 2006 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) Muse Award for Creativity in Business for its work in utilizing extraordinary use of creative thought within an aspect of business. The recipient of one of nine awards presented during VMFA’s “Un-Gala” Event, Timmons Group was chosen from a field of more than 70 applicants and 22 finalists nominated by Richmond area businesses.

Timmons Group was recognized specifically for its ingenuity in utilizing landscape architects’ creative designs to enhance outdoor learning opportunities and for healing landscapes that enhance the quality of life for seniors.

Contributing to the group’s success was a “Memory Garden” designed by Nathan Gruver and SFCS Inc., specifically for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. Designed to appeal to all five human senses, the garden will be used for daily therapy with the hope of offering patients a connection to past experiences. According to the project manager LuGay Lanier, LA, FASLA, “the garden recognizes the importance of horticultural therapy and the positive impact this interaction has on an individual.”

In addition, horticulturist Neal Beasley has developed detailed plant information sheets which educate clients and users about characteristics, pests, and maintenance requirements of each material chosen for specific projects. Blake Hall and Erica Gatti’s work on “Stormwater Story”, which incorporates SOLs into learning landscapes, has also won a Virginia ASLA award for Communication.

Timmons Group applauds the efforts of Mandy Bartell, Neal Beasley, Erica Gatti, Nathan Gruver, Blake Hall, LuGay Lanier and Sam Saunders, through whose efforts the award-winning submissions were possible.
