Timmons Group Selected for Cayuga International

Speedway Project Team

Richmond, VA – June 22, 2006 – In conjunction with Richmond-based architecture firm, Baskervill, Timmons Group has been selected to provide civil site design services for the Cayuga International Speedway project. The project will involve design of the new state of the art multi-use facility located near Toronto, Canada. The plan incorporates all the amenities of a contemporary racing venue including VIP areas, hospitality rooms, box seating and an extensive public midway plaza. The midway will also feature fan and driver interaction zones, multi-media displays and spaces for relaxation and entertainment. New concession, souvenir, and restroom buildings will be constructed including a refurbished RV park and camping areas.

As part of the Baskervill and Timmons Group design team, Timmons Group’s Commercial Sector Leader, Junie West, is working in close connection with Baskervill Motorsports’ Principal, Mark Lindsey, to consult on the track surface and undertake responsibilities from the outside retaining wall to the infield. A variety of complex issues will be calculated to ensure an exciting track, including banking decisions, transition areas, lengths of straight-aways and turn radius, and track geometry.

West, who was also the track surface designer at Richmond International Raceway (RIR), which has become known as the “Action Track”, following its consistently high marks for producing exciting races, has extensive experience in designing motorsports facilities throughout North America. In addition to being an avid race fan, West hosts an interactive call-in NASCAR radio talk show, RaceTalk. He has hosted the show for 13 years, the last two for ESPN. It is this combination of experiences from both the professional and fan perspectives that he cites as providing him with a better understanding of the needs of raceway-related projects.
