Education
Timmons Group’s focus on education enables our civil engineering design teams to master plan and design school sites that effectively integrate your educational program and operational considerations into your selected site. Timmons Group is committed to environmentally sensitive and responsible site design, while never losing focus on your project budget and time constraints.

Timmons Group understands the need to work together to be successful and will work within the content of the design team throughout the entire process. Our civil engineers have decades of experience in understanding the specific challenges of school projects, such as balancing the building program with available funding, phasing the work around the school year, engaging and educating the community and understanding trends in education.

The majority of the work that is completed by Timmons Group’s education practice is bid through a public procurement process. Our experience with this process has resulted in the preparation of plans and specifications that are clear and concise and that effectively manage the risks associated with unforeseen conditions. Our presence on site during the construction process also helps to ensure that the intent of the design is realized in the field.

Third Creek Elementary School
Iredell County, NC
A new elementary school on a 102 acre site, this project was the first elementary school on the East Coast to register with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to go through the LEED® 2.0 Green Building Rating System.  A landscape plan that features fast growing, low-maintenance, drought resistant native plantings that will reduce the “heat island” effects of the parking lots and created a series of learning gardens around the school was also designed.

Hanover County, VA
Timmons Group prepared a master plan that allowed for each school to have its own identity while maximizing the use of shared infrastructure.  Examples are the shared bus loop and the centralized stormwater management facility that serves both sites.  Oak Knoll Middle School won an award from VEFP for Best New Project, Secondary Education.  Among the citations was “Clarity of Site Design.”
