More than fifty years, three name changes and three headquarters ago, the firm that would become synonymous with the philosophy of "quality service, on time at a reasonable fee" started out in a small office in downtown Richmond. Established in 1953, the partnership Shropshire-Timmons became J. K. Timmons & Associates, PC in 1955; Timmons, Inc. in 1995; and finally Timmons Group in 2003. The timeline below chronicles our history from 1953 to the present.

With the initial name change, the company moved headquarters from 4th Street to West Cary Street in Richmond. The demand for construction surveys on the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike/I-95 allowed the firm to grow to over 25 employees. Other early projects included survey services to Camp Pickett, and design and construction surveys for subdivision and commercial developments in the Richmond area.

With strong leadership and management, the firm continued to grow, establishing the first branch office on Staples Mill Road in Henrico County in 1976.
